Algae in Ponds

While some pond owners use chemicals to try to control algae and algae blooms, the most effective way to ensure a healthy pond is through proper aeration which helps control the organic matter that feeds these grwoths. By increasing oxygen levels in your pond, you help fuel the aerobic organisms that feed on the organic sludge and sediment in your pond that fuels the growth of aquatic plants and algae.  Algae over time will block the sunlight that reaches the water and will create an even larger problem in time. 

Additionally, fountains can help move algae from the center of the pond to the edges, making it more accessible for easy removal with a net or skimmer.

Once you have the pond algae under control, through consistent aeration and properly sized aerators, your ponds natural ecosystem will begin to create and maintain a great environment for aquatic life.
